"Marguerite" is named after that lovely spring/summer flower, a nod to the very first fabric I used to sew it two years ago—just two hours before heading off to a festival.
 
Since then, it has become a staple of my spring/summer wardrobe. It looks like a skirt but offers the comfort of trousers! It is perfect for hot weather, summer picnics, or even as sleepwear.
 
So, as Atelier Bernie’s 5th anniversary approached, I decided to develop this pattern, which I had originally intended to keep just for myself. Its extreme simplicity hadn't really inspired me to work on it, but I kept receiving compliments on it, and friends kept telling me they wanted to sew it too. This pattern—destined to become a wardrobe essential—marks five wonderful years of design that I wanted to commemorate.
 
It is a loose, flared design that can be made as trousers or shorts. The waist is gathered with elastic and features a small ruffle detail. It includes in-seam side pockets and is constructed entirely using French seams—no serger required! Of course, if you prefer to sew it more quickly, you can assemble it using standard methods and finish the seam allowances with a serger (as I did with my early versions).
