The Eugénie blouse draws inspiration from early 20th-century Edwardian styles. It is named after Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III—a woman who, beyond her beauty, made her mark on history through her progressive views on the status of women and her modern outlook.
At first glance, the design appears simple, featuring a yoke that creates a lovely neckline, accentuated by gathers. It has a loose fit, creating a billowy effect when tucked into high-waisted trousers.
The Eugénie blouse features a yoke, cuffs, and sleeves embellished with inset trim and tucks. You can use various types of trim, such as lace, eyelet (broderie anglaise), ladder stitching, or embroidered bands. The pattern is designed for two widths of trim: 3 cm and 1.5 cm. If you wish to use different widths, the accompanying YouTube tutorial explains how to adjust the design.
The sleeves are gathered at both the shoulder head and the cuff. They can be left plain or decorated with a strip of trim running down the arm.
The cuffs are long and come in two versions: a simple style without an opening, designed to showcase inset trim, and a classic style featuring a simple slit and buttons.
Finally, a button placket runs down the back, completing this blouse rich in intricate details.
